Unexplained Phenomenon: Google’s New Doodle Creates a Ruckus

Have you visited Google’s homepage today? You probably have, and you probably noticed today’s “Google Doodle.”

Google’s Doodle for September the 5th is the Google logo with a spaceship “beaming up” one of the O’s. Now, normally Google has daily logos that reflect an important event (past or present), but not today. Upon clicking this image, you’ll notice you’re directed to the Google search for “unexplained phenomenon.” The top two results? Unexplained-Mysteries.com and a LiveScience article about the top ten unexplained phenomena.

Almost immediately after this doodle appeared, unexplained phenomenon rose to the top of Google Trends; not far behind was top ten unexplained phenomena.

It’s still unclear as to why Google has put a spaceship into today’s doodle, but there is no shortage of speculation. It may have been a response to a trend in searches for unexplained phenomenons recently, but many people believe it has to do with the success of District 9 or the release of District 9 in the United Kingdom. A lot of people believe it has to do with an upcoming viral event, something big. And there is also a lot of speculation that, yes, Google has inside information that aliens will be arriving to Earth soon.

And to add to the confusion, Google tweeted “1.12.12 25.15.21.18 15 1.18.5 2.5.12.15.14.7 20.15 21.1” which translate to “all your O are belong to us.”

Whatever this may be, it’s definitely interesting and is creating a viral stir amongst bloggers. Right now, Google is shaping the news. The Google Doodle is impacting what we are searching for and what content we’ll look at today. And I know one thing is for sure, I’m going to be telling my friends about this, so let the viral begin.
