Weekend Box Office: Crazy People Win Dan Koelsch, March 1, 2010 February isn’t a blockbuster month, so while the top four grossing films this weekend made less than Avatar did alone on it’s second weekend out, there were definitely some success stories. Now that the actuals are in, which movie about crazy people won out, The Crazies or Shutter Island? Find out after the jump. While most of the buzz this weekend was for The Crazies, and Shutter Island was in it’s second week, Scorcese’s movie version of LOST won out with $22.7 million. In fact, the critically-appalled Cop Out even beat The Crazies, taking in 18.2 million to Crazies’ $16.1 million (Avatar came in fourth at $13.7 million). So, what went wrong? Well, while there was some buzz for The Crazies, it didn’t go much beyond that. Also, the season-less star appeal of Shutter Island and Cop Out most likely won out over the off-season horror genre. Still, I’m surprised, as the movie had generally positive reviews and stole the hearts and eyes of a lot of film geeks. I can’t imagine how much it would have made in October.
