Follow In The Footsteps of Ferris Bueller Dan Koelsch, June 3, 2010 Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, the 1986 teen comedy directed by the late John Hughes, is one of the classic films of the ’80s. The film chronicles the mischevious Bueller (Matthew Broderick) as he skips school (along with his girlfriend and best friend)and spends the day in downtown Chicago. Now you can follow his epic cut day thanks to Foursquare. If this sounds familiar, you may remember our story in November about how VisitBritain, the official tourist agency for England, did something very similar for impending release of Sherlock Holmes. Now, thanks to the growth of the Foursquare, the location-based social networking website, this kind of tourism is able to become more mainstream and social. Explore Chicago, Chicago’s official tourism organization, has created “The Ferris Bueller’s Day Off Movie Experience”. Their website gives you the list of the locations to go in the order they are visited in the movie. Foursquare joins in on the fun by allowing you to win one of their signature “badges”, as well as offering a prize to some lucky winners through their Facebook page. Here’s their Facebook post on the contest: ummmm, yes please! 🙂 …our friends @ Explore Chicago (http://foursquare.com/explorechicago) are offering to fly some lucky users to the Windy City to recreate your own Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, so they could earn the three Chicago badges! Let them know what scene you’d like to recreate with a comment below for a chan…ce to win two Southwest tickets, a hotel stay, and museum passes. Bananatown! Enter by Friday, June 4.
