The Men In The Black Suits Are Real: Possible “Men In Black 3” Viral Campaign Nick Butler, November 26, 2011April 1, 2012 Earlier today, a teaser poster for Men In Black 3 was discovered by Collider.com and it looks to contain the beginning of a Men in Black 3 viral campaign. Embedded in the poster was a link to a Facebook page run by a teenager (BugEyes126) who is convinced that “the men in the black suits are real.” More after the break. As you can see below, the bottom of the teaser poster contained a semi-hidden link to TheMenInBlackSuitsAreReal.com. The Facebook page only has 122 likes as of this post, and only one status update. The info page gives a bit more background on what this is all about: Welcome to TheMenInBlackSuitsAreReal Facebook page. My handle is BugEyes126. I’m 14 and I live in a town in middle of nowhere (don’t even try, you’ll never find me). It can get kind of boring here, but we do have a skate park. My favorite subject is computer science and I’m getting pretty good at writing code and cracking encryptions. Not that I’m bragging or anything. I’m interested in extraterrestrials and have been following groups of men in black suits who seem to be involved in covering up alien activities. A lot of people (like my GF) think aliens aren’t real, but they’ll come around soon enough. I’ve got the proof. Or at least I will get it. Just wait. If you have info on these men in black suits you should contact me to help. Whenever I get more details I’ll post here because the men in black suits are real! bugeyes – (@).(@) The info page also has a not-so-subtle link to MenInBlack.com, the official Sony Pictures website for MIB. That’s all there really is now, but we’ll continue following this campaign, so make sure you check back for updates. Thanks to Unfiction forums for the heads up. I was about to say oh holy crap, this sounds cool, a 42-like viral involving the MIB almost being real – awesome! But wait… the website just links… to a Facebook page? Are you effing KIDDING ME?! What the hell kind of crapass viral is this being run on Facebook? I’m extremely let down Sony/Columbia, so far at least.
Sony has their ups and downs. District 9 was an up, this is a down. The thing that kills me isn’t even the Facebook page, it’s the link to the official Sony website for Men In Black. Sony has always had a problem with putting their branding all over the viral campaigns which I think takes away from the experience. I’m ok with using Facebook, but I would hope it would progress to the point where it starts on Facebook and moves onto other areas of the web (like a secret government website only the Men in Black use). It’s the branding that upsets me.
