As technology has progressed, consumers have seen the rise of an expansive market for movie prop replicas. Unfortunately, while the products themselves have been stellar, from lightsabers to swords from Middle Earth, they carry a hefty price tag. It is always refreshing then to see then a prop emerge that is not only awesome, but affordable. Prop maker and collectables producer Quantum Mechanix has just announced the production of a replica Argus Cube from J.J. Abrams’ Super 8. Hit the jump for details, because you know you want one.
Head over to the official Quantum Mechanix site to read the press release and browse their line of other products, which includes properties like Star Trek and Serenity. Here’s an excerpt providing some of the details about the Argus Cube:
“Using the 3-D solid model files used to create the screen-used props, QMx has created an exact replica of the Argus Cube in passive mode. With a polystone core, the exterior of the cube is plated with a smooth pearlescent coating, perfectly replicating the semi-organic, semi-metallic finish of the hero prop.
Each cube measures 2 inches (50.8 mm) on each side and weighs approximately 8 ounces (0.23 kg). Priced at just $14.95 each, not only is the Argus Cube one of the coolest prop replicas to own, it’s also one of the easiest to afford.”
The release does not confirm if acquiring enough Argus Cubes will allow you to build your own alien aircraft, but fans can dream right? Although you will not be able to include an Argus Cube on your Christmas list this year, you won’t have to wait too long to add it to your memorabilia collection as they are scheduled to ship in early 2012.
