Looper Network Website Now Live, Missions Coming Soon Dan Koelsch, August 14, 2012August 14, 2012 A few weeks ago, the official website for Rian Johnson’s time traveling actioner Looper went live and teased a viral website called Looper Network. This new website is now live, and the fun is just starting. Get the details after the break. Loopers are a unique brand of contract killers. In 2072, getting away with murder is nearly impossible, but fortunately, time travel exists (illegally, of course). So, the mob sends back people they want to wack to 2044. The Looper Network is the organization that manages these hitmen, and everyone gets paid very well, as the website promotes. On the website, you can sign up (via Facebook) to be part of the Looper Network, but there is one stipulation: You may have to kill your future self in order to “close the loop”. If you’re cool with that, just provide your signature and set up your profile. You then get a message from your handler Abe (Jeff Daniels). Congratulations for accepting our proviso. You are now one of the elite, one of the privileged class of Loopers who has been given a chance to thrive in this gutter of a world. I’m from the future, and if you think it’s bad now, believe me— it only gets worse. You’re going to want to use this new wealth I’m putting into your hands to prepare yourself and possibly brush up on your Mandarin. This job isn’t for the weak. We value Loopers who aren’t afraid to face each day like it might be their last, because some day, you might have to face yourself. Follow the link to finish your profile, grab a blunderbuss, and get ready— you’re going to hit the ground running. Welcome to the Looper Network. From now on, I’m the most important person in your life. The website has two other ads, one just promoting the general concept of living the “Looper life”, and another for a gentlemen’s club called “La Belle Aurore”. The bottom of the page has a “Looper Feed”, in which the Top 5 Loopers provide tips. You can find these Top 5 Loopers right next to the feed. Our protagonist Joe (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) sits at top with an impressive 242 kills. The real fun, however, is on the top navigation bar. There apparently will be missions starting August 22nd at 12PM PST (should be PDT, but shouldn’t be an issue). There’s also a section for “Equipment” that shows some of the guns and air motorcycles you’d be using as a Looper, and you choose which ones go into your profile. Based on Abe’s message, there’s a lot of potential for this to be an fun, interactive ARG that involved the real world. Some blogs even got mailed a letter from Abe and a fake piece of gold (which is how the Loopers are paid). Of course, we’ll stay on top of this, but at the very least, be ready for August 22nd. Looper opens in theaters on September 28th. Source: First Showing ARGs & Campaigns Viral Marketing Looper

The Lost Underground Art Project December 3, 2009 We haven’t talked much about ABC’s LOST here on MovieViral, but they really pioneered the new wave of television viral marketing.
