The Star Wars news cycle has turned up this week, with several stories on the new film. Some good news for fans of the original trilogy includes the confirmation that Legendary composer John Williams will return for the next three films in the saga, and that Disney and Lucasfilm plan to use more practical effects (the excessive CGI in the prequel trilogy has been heavily criticized). Episode VII, which is scheduled to open in 2015, is rumored to start production next month under the alias Foodles.
The CW has announced that they will be introducing superhero The Flash on their hit show Arrow as a precursor to his own show on the network. While many fans are excited for a Flash TV show, not everyone is happy with the news.
Keeping on the DC front, Zack Snyder is supposedly meeting with famed comic writer Frank Miller to discuss the upcoming Batman/Superman movie. There is also a rumor that Warner Bros. is looking for an older Batman, with such names as Jon Hamm, Gerard Butler, Ryan Gosling, Josh Brolin, Joe Manganiello, Richard Armitage, Max Martini, and Matthew Goode being thrown around.
While Guillermo Del Toro’s Robots vs. Monsters movie Pacific Rim didn’t exactly light up the box office in the US, its international success and positive reviews have been enough to ensure a sequel will probably be made.
20th Cenury Fox has announced that there will be three Avatar sequels starting in 2016. There was also news that Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles creator Josh Friedman has been brought on to work on the screenplay for Avatar 2.
In other superhero news, the new poster for Thor: The Dark World has been getting a lot of comments, Jamie Foxx has been aggressively pushing for a Spawn remake, and Bryan Singer posted a picture of a full size Sentinel from X-Men: Days of Future Past.
