‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’ Viral Site Delivers Its Verdict On The Lizard’s Crimes

Michael Lee, January 7, 2014January 7, 2014

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 viral site Lizard Verdict

A new update to The Amazing Spider-Man 2 viral site is giving us some very unsurprising news: Dr. Curt Connors is heading Rikers. In a new article posted on The Daily Bugle tumblr, the blog reveals that the former OsCorp geneticist was found guilty on all twenty counts including the murder of Captain George Stacy (who died in the first Amazing Spider-Man film). Like most of these posts, there are nods and references made to other characters in Spider-Man lore, so you will have to hit the jump to see who the viral site referenced this time.

First here is the full article from The Daily Bugle viral site:

By Joy Mercado

The trial of Dr. Curt Connors came to an end as the former geneticist for Oscorp Industries was found guilty on all twenty counts for which he was indicted, including the murder of NYPD Captain George Stacy.

Connors and his attorney, Anne Weying, were unable to convince the jury that he was not responsible for his deadly actions while transformed. His defense that he only injected himself with the serum that changed him into the Lizard to prevent Oscorp Industries from experimenting on innocent civilians did not sway the jury.

Next stop: Rikers. But even that is controversial. Ravencroft Institute for the Criminally Insane has said their facility is better served for housing and studying a prisoner such as Connors, but the judge has yet to rule on where Curt Connors will spend what is likely to be the rest of his life.

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen Anne Weying’s name mentioned in the The Amazing Spider-Man 2 viral marketing campaign. She first appeared on the faux news site when they were reporting on Dr. Curt Connor’s court date and trial. Not sure if this means this will be the end of her appearance. But other characters have been apphrended by Spider-Man, so they could use the “These villains only appeared until after Spider-Man fighting crime” argument.

But could this be the end of Dr. Curt Connors? Remember The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will have at least three villains: Electro (Jamie Foxx), The Rhino (Paul Giamatti), and some form of the Green Goblin (Dane DeHaan). Two more Easter Eggs referenced Doctor Octopus and Vulture, which leaves one more spot open in the Sinister Six roster. Could that slot be filled by The Lizard? Maybe.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Chris Cooper, and Sally Field. Directed by Marc Webb, the film opens in theaters on May 2.
