Current Viral Campaigns Dan Koelsch, January 31, 2009January 30, 2010 Now you know who we are and what we do. So what movies currently have viral campaigns going on? Here’s a quick introductory summary. Don’t worry, we’ll have much more coverage leading up to these films. Watchmen (Opens 3/6/09):This film, adapted from the critically-acclaimed graphic novel by Alan Moore, has a lot of hype, but only one viral site to speak of, and that is thenewfrontiersman.net., based off the newspaper in the story. However, there is a Direct-to-DVD release of Black Freighter and Under The Hood, which were intermission stories between chapters. Star Trek (Opens 5/8/09):This reboot of the famed franchise is headed by JJ Abrams, and is looking to be a big summer action film. The film chronicles how Kirk, Spock, and the rest of the original crew first got together. So far the only viral site is NCC-1701.com, which has security footage of the Enterprise being built. Several cross-promotional sites have been established by the likes of Intel and Esurance, but so far have given only minimal info on the film. Angels and Demons (Opens 5/15/09):The prequel to the blockbuster “Da Vinci Code” also has only one viral site, which is altarsofscience.com. The site simply has a video stream of the missing canister of antimatter that is so essential to the plot of the book. District 9 (Opens 8/14/09):There’s a lot of secrecy surrounding this film, even down to who’s involved and what it’s really about. According to reports and viral evidence, the movie is based off the short film “Alive in Joburg”, which is about aliens landing in Africa and becoming slaves. Peter Jackson is producing. There are several viral sites for the 2009 film, including D-9.com, MultiNationalUnited.com, MathsFromOuterSpace.com, and MNUSpreadsLies.com. 2012 (Opens 11/13/09):The apocalyptic film by Roland Emmerich has one viral site right now: instituteforhumancontinuity.org, which offers you a lottery number to be chosen as a survivor when the Mayan-prophesized doomsday comes around. So check out the sites, see what you can find, and post in our forum. If there’s other viral you know of, let us know! Viral Marketing 2012Angels & DemonsDistrict 9Star TrekWatchmen
