Repo Men Motion Comic Debuts Online Iain Welford, March 15, 2010March 15, 2010 With only 3 days left to go before Repo Men hits your local cinemaplex, Universal has launched one last video, a Dennis Calero-illustrated motion comic debuting today SXSW and ready to download online. Find out more about this after the break. Available on Apple.com, the comic features Jude Law’s character Remy on the psychiatrist’s couch giving us a valuable in-sight into the mind of a Repo Man. From the motion comic it is quite apparant that this is not a shady in-and-out in the middle night affair, but a full public display of grotesque life altering surgery for everyone to see. It is apparently reminder as to why you should never fall behind in your payments is never too far away. When it reaches that 96th day, there really is no avoiding The Union taking back their property. It debuted at SXSW in 3D, and the next comic is set to debut in a week and a half, according to Switched. If you’re going to catch the film, I’d recommend you watch this to set you up for what looks likely to be an entertaining 2 hours. WOW another jab at the ORIGINAL Repo! aka The Genetic Opera which also features graphic novel panels. Universal should be ashamed of themselves.
Universal’s blatant copying of Repo! the Genetic Opera’s marketing and artwork was bad enough. But to flat out copy the graphic/comic panels and ideas of the Genetic Opera’s artist and creator, Terrance Zdunich, is simply pathetic. ‘Repo Men’ can only hope to be the fan and cult success that Repo! the Genetic Opera IS. This last desperate cry for attention only proves that Universal and ‘Repo Men’ are running scared of the Genetic Opera and its fans and are trying to latch on to the growing buzz and excitement of the ‘Repo! Revolution’ also debuting in theatres worldwide this Friday.
It’s such a shame that the people behind Repo Mens’ marketing seem so keen to shove their fingers in holes in the Repo Opera fans’ sides. Universal: You KNOW The Genetic Opera has a huge fanbase, one that is loud and cult oriented. You know that the very existance of this movie is a sore point. But continually stealing elements from OUR Repo isn’t likely to make our campaigning against you guys stop. You’re nothing more to us than a rash, and the more you rub, the more you’ll irritate us. But don’t worry. You WILL disappear in time. And us? Well, we’ll still be around, won’t we?
how is it copying Repo the Opera? this is an action, dark humored movie, not an opera.the motion comic 3d is pretty amazing and very well done. nothing similar to the opera at all.plus the marketing is creative and different. The cult success of the opera came out the same time as the book Repossession Mamba was written.this movie looks cool so i’ll definitely be watching

The Genetic Opera is obviously not fore everyone, and while the similarites between the two movies are disappointing and slightly maddening, bashing the movies is the wrong way to go.
@Jessie– Actually, the premise is very much the same, and the dark humor element is present in both. Our biggest objection lays in the fact that Repo The Genetic Opera has actually been in existance in one form or another, since 2000– between soundtracks, the old website, and live stage plays. The motion comic is rubbing repo opera fans the wrong way, because many of the scene progressions in Repo! are shown in motion comic form…
Wow. Well, are we really surprised? I guess they couldn’t leave it at a “similar premise”, eh?Hey Universal, I have a great idea for a movie! There’s this guy, right? He has to save the galaxy, and he meets this chick with a weird hairdo and robot or two. They kiss and then find out they’re related! And by the end of the movie the chick loves the smart ass with the smell companion and our head dude saved the day. It’s called Galaxy Fighter: episode 2.3 – and we’ll release the story of the other episodes out of order. That’s an original idea, right?How can we go wrong?
actually jessie, repo the genetic opera came out in theaters at least a year or two before reposession mambo was published, plus repo the genetic opera was a stage play that performed years before, called “the necromerchant’s debt”
Wow. Yet another reason I will not be seeing this movie. I guess “GOOOOOOOLD” can get you everything but originality.
