The Onion Gets Two Cable Television Shows Dan Koelsch, March 22, 2010March 22, 2010 Largely regarded as the best fake news organization, The Onion has gained popularity and success thanks almost entirely to the Internet. Between the hilarious articles on its website, its YouTube videos that instantly go viral, and its much loved, but under appreciated movie, its hard to get away from The Onion. Now it’ll be even harder with two new cable comedy shows from “America’s Finest News Source.” It was first reported in November last year that Comedy Central reached a deal with The Onion to turn its Onion Sports Network (OSN) videos into a full TV show for the network. The Onion often puts out video clips from its fake station, so now we can see more of what those full shows would actually look like. While right now its only a pilot episode being filmed, the OSN show would fit in perfectly with the other satire news shows The Daily Show and The Colbert Report. Pretty soon we’ll need a 24-hour fake news channel (I shouldn’t give them any ideas). Personally I love “The Steam Room” segments. Check out the latest OSN clip from The Onion below. Kentucky Violated NCAA Rules While Recruiting Basketball-Playing Dog Mashable (via New York Times) now reports that The Onion is getting yet another cable television show, this time on the Independent Film Channel (IFC), titled Onion News Network (ONN). The show will take on both the 24-Hour news networks like CNN and MSNBC, as well as local news shows. While it may seem like it’s impeding on Jon Stewart and Colbert’s territory, be warned that the ONN is much harsher and cutthroat than anything on Comedy Central. It should be interesting once the show debuts on IFC in October. Check out my favorite ONN video below.
