A few months ago, we reported on a website that you could use to make a digital representation of yourself as a Na’vi from Avatar. With the film’s premise being that humans can use Na’vi avatars, it’s natural to want to see what you would look like if you had your own avatar. With that in mind, 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment has taken the tech to the streets of Los Angeles.
Yesterday at The Grove, an outdoor shopping hub of Los Angeles, three morphing stations were installed. Similar to the website, you can create your own blue Pandoran avatar, this time using a touch screen and a photo it takes of you. The machines are designed and made by Inwindow Outdoor, who are known for their innovative advertising. Like what you see? You can email yourself the video on your transformation. Pretty cool.
It’s unclear how long they will stay at The Grove, but plans are in place to have the stations in Pasadena near the end of the month. This is of course to promote the film’s April 22nd release, which is (as planned) on the 40th anniversary of Earth Day.
