Welcome to MovieViral’s Official 2010 San Diego Comic-Con Preview! We will be covering the mega event live from the convention floor and wherever else the festivities take us. This year’s convention takes place from Thursday July 22 to Sunday July 25, with Wednesday July 21 being the Con’s preview night. After the break we’ll give you the scoop on all the panels, screenings, and other events we’ll be attending, as well as other good resources, whether you’re going to San Diego or following from home.
OVERVIEW
I will be attending the convention myself, so if you see me, say hi (here is my Facebook so you can recognize me). If you remember our coverage of last year’s Comic-Con, my friends Kelsey and Rose reported for us. There’s a chance they may be there again this year to help us, and we’ll update you if that is the case. We will also be teaming up with our partner FusedFilm for some of our coverage.
So, how can you get our updates? For the quickest updates, make sure you follow our Twitter account, where I will be posting pictures and quick blurbs as soon as I get them. We’ll also be posting full articles here on the website of course, though I imagine most of them will be during the late night and early morning (the only time I’ll have free). We’ll have photos, video, and possibly some interviews depending on how things pan out. We’ll also try to pick up some swag to give away later.
To plan your Comic-Con trip or to just know all the happenings during the event, we have a few resources for you. The CCI homepage is of course your best source of information on all the official happenings. The San Diego Comic Con Unofficial Blog is a great place to go for news on offsite events, and they even include a downloadable calendar. For the really important stuff like parking spots and food, the Unauthorized Comic-Con Survival Guide is a great little book to carry with you. Lastly, be sure to follow our Comic-Con list on Twitter for other great resources.
Ok, here’s the moment you’ve been waiting for. Our daily breakdown will include our planned schedule of official Comic-Con events, followed by alternatives (just in case), then offsite events and other notable happenings. This should give you a clear picture of what we are covering, so if you think we should change anything, let us know in the comments. Our coverage will focus mainly on films and viral campaigns. Of course, Comic-Con is very fluid, so everything is subject to change.

Battle: Los Angeles — When unknown forces suddenly and mercilessly attack the City of Angels out of nowhere, it’s up to a local Marine staff sergeant (Aaron Eckhart) and a new platoon of unseasoned soldiers to meet the threat. 2:15-3:15 Summit Entertainment: RED— Summit Entertainment presents a sneak peek of exclusive footage from RED. They used to be the CIA’s top agents — but the secrets they know just made them the Agency’s top targets. Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, John Malkovich, and Helen Mirren star in RED, an explosive action-comedy based on the cult DC Comics graphic novel by Warren Ellis. Join him, director Robert Schwentke, and the film’s stars as they share footage from the film and debut the final trailer before it’s ever in theaters. Hall H
3:30-4:30 Entertainment Weekly: The Visionaries— A discussion with geek gods J. J. Abrams (Star Trek) and Joss Whedon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) on the future of pop culture. EW presents an in-depth conversation with these two creative geniuses about how technology, gaming, and global culture are reshaping how we tell and consume stories on television, film and the web. Plus: Is the superhero movie waning, or is it on the cusp of reinvention? And what do they think the pop culture universe will look like a decade from now? Moderated by Jeff “Doc” Jensen. Hall H
4:45-5:45 Our Heroes Have More Fun: the Anti-Heroes of Showtime— The 21st century anti-hero has become one of the driving forces in recent pop culture. When it comes to the television anti-hero, Showtime has the winning formula. Hear firsthand from the showrunners, creators, and actors who have helped define this phenomenon. Dexter’s Michael C. Hall and showrunner Chip Johannessen (24) delve into the phenomenon of Dexter Morgan, the serial killer you can’t help rooting for; David Duchovny and Tom Kapinos of Californication discuss why Hank Moody is the “bad boy” we love despite his obvious shortcomings; and Mary-Louise Parker and Jenji Kohanof Weeds interpret pot-dealing soccer mom Nancy Botwin’s moral decisions, as the line between right and wrong is not always as simple as black or white. Plus: Nurse Jackie — despite a little pill-popping along the way — is a smart no-nonsense nurse, who if you’re ever taken to the hospital, you had better hope she’s the first person you see. With heroes like these, who needs villains? Breaking the occasional promise, law, or commandment is all in a day’s work, and one thing’s for sure — Showtime heroes never let doing the right thing get in the way of having a good time. Ballroom 20
6:00-7:00 Universal: Scott Pilgrim vs. the World— Genre-bending filmmaker Edgar Wright (Hot Fuzz), graphic novel author Bryan Lee O’Malley, and the cast of Universal Pictures’ Scott Pilgrim vs. the World provide a sneak peek of summer 2010’s epic of epic epicness. As you can tell, this is a pretty ambitious schedule, so there’s a good chance I’ll have to skip some of these depending on time limitations, crowds, or just plain being tired. There’s apparently going to be a Machete taco truck with cast and crew, followed by a screening of a few clips, but I don’t have any details on that yet, and its not an official Comic-Con presentation. The Tron press conference and panel are going to be the main focus of the day, and Kevin and I may spend some of our time at Flynn’s Arcade, which is supposed to be at 335 6th Avenue. There could even be a full blown ARG for us to follow, so we’ll see how the day goes.

You never know what else might happen! Room 32AB
Offsite Events and Other Notes
The last day of Comic-Con, as you can see, is light. It’s Kid’s Day at the convention, so if you’re coming, bring the family. The Castle panel will be my highlight of the day, and maybe Kevin and I will try to do a wrap up podcast for the convention.
OTHER THINGS TO LOOK OUT FOR
There a few things going on throughout Comic-Con, including Showtimes’ Dexter: Game On experience, as well as a bunch of stuff Adult Swim is putting on, including an ice cream truck and a pizzeria. Of course, we’ll keep our eyes and hears open to find the coolest stuff we can.
So, there you have it, our Official 2010 San Diego Comic-Con Preview. If you’re going to the convention, say hi if you see me. If you’re going to follow our coverage (which you should!), let me know if there’s another panel, event, party, etc. that I should be covering instead of what I have scheduled. Speaking of our coverage, you can follow it all and share it with this simple link: http://bit.ly/MovieViralSDCC.
