Dress Up As A Superhero To Help Will Ferrell and Dreamworks Animation Break a World Record Dan Koelsch, September 17, 2010October 3, 2010 Will Ferrell made quite a splash at Comic-Con this year by showing up in costume as his animated title character for Dreamwork Animations’ Megamind. Now Ferrell looks to make an even bigger splash, this time in the record books, as a shrewd publicity stunt has been set in motion to get over 1,500 caped crusaders to gather in Los Angeles. Get the details after the break. The current Guinness World Record for Largest Gathering of Superheroes is 1,500. DreamWorks Animation, with the assistance of Guinness, is looking to break that record on October 2nd at L.A. Live. Dreamworks sent out the following press release that details the event, which is a really great viral marketing move to draw attention to the film. It’s almost like a flash mob, but bigger and more official. WHO: Will Ferrell (aka Megamind), DreamWorks Animation and Guinness World Records WHAT: Join Will Ferrell and 1,500 of his closest costumed superhero friends as they attempt to make heroic history and claim the Guinness World Records title for the Largest Gathering of Superheroes. The Mega-event hosted by DreamWorks Animation is open to all caped crusaders wishing to join the fun. To qualify for the record attempt, all interested participants must arrive dressed as an easily recognisable superhero that has appeared in a published book, comic, television program or film, as stipulated by the record guidelines. The feat will be judged by official Guinness World Records Adjudicator and Spokesperson, Stuart Claxton and will require a minimum of 1,501 superheroes to break the current world record. The world record attempt will mark the kickoff of MegaMonth, an official month dedicated to Mega-events across the country in celebration of the release of MEGAMIND on November 5th. WHEN: Saturday, October 2 8:00 – 10:00 a.m. – Arrivals / Mega-Breakfast 10:00 – 10:30 a.m. – Record attempt, Certificate Presentation WHERE: LA LIVE 800 W.
