Find Makarov: Countdown Hints At “Modern Warfare 3” Nick Butler, February 25, 2011February 27, 2011 UPDATE 2: The site appears to be for a Modern Warfare inspired film. Again, more information at GamingViral.com.[UPDATE]: Activision is now saying that the site is a hoax. More information at GamingViral.com.A website containing a countdown for the next game in the Call of Duty series launched earlier today, with little information as to what it will reveal. It’s speculated the countdown is related to Modern Warfare 3, the (rumored) third installment in the extremely successful Modern Warfare series. The site, FindMakarov.com, was discovered after That Videogame Blog received bloody dog tags in the mail containing the URL address. More details after the jump. GamingViral.com, our sister site, has more information on this story, but here’s the important details. The dog tags that were sent out (seen below) appear to belong to Shepherd from Modern Warfare 2, Makarov’s partner-in-crime, who, at the end of the game, you kill. This seems to suggest that either a full-on ARG will begin with the goal to find Makarov OR the next game will focus on finding Makarov. Also embeded on the tags is the phrase END THE WAR. The site has that Modern Warfare feel to it, with the green digital-like theme, so everyone is assuming this is related to the Modern Warfare series. The countdown ends a little more than 4 days from now (March 2nd at 10AM). We’ll be covering this story over at GamingViral.com, so make sure you periodically check in there if you’re interested. ARGs & Campaigns Viral Marketing Viral News CountdownModern Warfare 3
