“Cars 2” Roundtable: John Lasseter Talks Sequels, Animating Water, and 3D Michael Lee, June 21, 2011June 21, 2011 If there is anything you must know about Cars 2 director John Lasseter is that he is passionate about his work, and with a great passion about the work you will end up with an equally passionate product. In a roundtable interview, the director talks about the difficulties that come with producing a sequel, adding that there is a certain code of ethics with Pixar that they do not create sequels for their movies just to print the money, but to tell a compelling story that will hopefully engage the audience. Lasseter can relate to Larry the Cable Guy in some ways, both see a lot of who Mater is in them. When talking about his experiences doing the world tour for the first Cars movie, he says there is a culture clash of sorts where his Hawaiian styles and farm boy experiences goes head to head with the glitz and glamour of a black-tie event art show. But that doesn’t bother the director has he uses that experience as inspiration for Cars 2. You can sense the drive, motivation, and passion that the director has and puts into each one of his movies. He may not have gotten into specifics for any future projects, but the director did state that they do like to keep their characters alive, which could mean that we could be seeing characters from previous Pixar features return in either animated shorts or hidden cameos.
