Trailers Weekly: “Rampart,” “Don’t Go in the Woods,” “Mirror, Mirror,” “Shame,” “Titanic 3D”

Michael Lee, November 19, 2011November 19, 2011

Trailers Weekly is a feature in which we bring you the most popular and talked about trailers of the week. Sharing trailers is a classic viral practice, and trailers are still the most mainstream way for people to learn about movies. This week’s we put the spotlight on the trailers for Rampart, Don’t Go in the Woods, Mirror, Mirror, Shame, and Titanic 3D. Check them out after the jump.

Rampart

The Messenger director Oren Moverman reunites with Woody Harrelson and Ben Foster in this police drama about the disgraced Rampart police division. From the moment the title card rolls, film festival honors start cueing and you will soon see that Rampart looks like a darker and full-length version of The Shield. Rampart only proves how versatile Woody Harrelson is an actor.

Don’t Go in the Woods

With Hollywood having run out of original ideas, directors are looking for innovative ways to call their projects “original.” Take the directorial debut long-time actor Vincent D’Onofrio’s Don’t Go in the Woods, for example. The film takes music and found footage, and blends it for something dreadful. The film stars a bunch of unknowns, which only exemplifies how this film has zero potential.

Mirror, Mirror

Last week we saw the trailer for Snow White and the Huntsman, and we learned that Kristen Stewart does have acting potential when you put away the sparkling vampires. But Tarsem Singh’s Mirror, Mirror is the polar opposite of that, having none of the excitement or energy of Snow White and the Huntsman. The first trailer for Mirror, Mirror is convoluted and painful to watch. But it does prove that Singh has a knack for the visually appealing.

Shame

Never thought I’d see a green band NC-17 trailer, but the first Shame trailer proved me wrong. So we got a somewhat softer and more gentle green-band NC-17 trailer for Shame which features Carey Mulligan singing her rendition of Frank Sinatra’s “New York, New York.” Shame has also been going around the festival circuit with everyone praising the film when the end credits start to roll.

Titanic 3D

Finally we got the trailer for Titanic 3D that you can watch on a 2D computer screen. For those who were not young enough to experience this movie on the big screen, you will get your chance to experience the film for the first time when Titanic 3D (also in 2D if you don’t want to fork over the 3D fee) hits theaters and in IMAX (yes for the first time since the technology was not available) April 6, 2012.
