Strange Noises Heard Around The World Could Have Scientific Explanation

Earlier this week, we reported on a phenomenon sweeping the Internet in which strange noises were heard around the world. These roars/groans from the sky are a bit frightening, which may have contributed to videos of the occurance flooding YouTube (along with many hoaxes). While we considered the idea that the sounds were some kind of marketing ploy, we now have at least one scientific explanation that might resolve this issue. Find out after the jump.

I was surfing YouTube last night when I found the video below. It’s a news report from Canadian channel CTV that talks about the sounds.

The professor in the clip explains that the sounds are coming from the Aurora Borealis (aka the Northern Lights) causing electromagnetic noise within nearby environmental antennas. It sounds a bit like the Roswell weather ballon explanation to me, especially since these noises have not been heard before (at least not recently, since this is the first time the Internet has been up in arms about it). What do you think? Is this a good explanation?

  1. I think they’re normal noises that people are blowing out of proportion because of it being 2012. I bet most of those noises are factories. I read a comment on youtube this guy posted saying that he heard the sound and followed it to a factory. No I’m not a sheep. I know a lot about the illuminati and what’s going on behind the scenes but part of being a sheep is believing everything you hear.

  2. Also the “Strange noises” have this cult following now. People just think it’s cool, and want to believe and they get mad if you try to debunk it. It’s just a dumb fad.

  3. well I think you right about the sheep part definetly but I heard the sound in The netherlands we live in Hilversum Media town there isnt a factory hear and it was at night.

  4. I think people are mad because they know they heard the sound.
    But people dont believe them because there are people who pretent that they heard it. But if 1 man lies about one thing doesn’t mean all men lie about it.
    I heard it for myself I know it is true. People dont want to hear because they no longer believe not only in God anymore but they have absolutely no faith at all so when they cant hear it or see it it just isnt there for them maybe thats the way people works nowadays. Love you cant prove love because you can’t see it you cant see the differende between someone who loves you or someone who tricks you. You got to feel it or you’ll be fooled.
    Well people find your innerselves do not believe anything you read on the internet but dont believe everything the goverment say with your blind eye.
    Let your self be the judge about things.

  5. Iv’e heard the noise more then afew times, actually stepping out of my house to see if there was a plow or other heavy machinery in use, and saw nothing. Found it odd and dismissed it. It wasnt until a few other people brought up the subject that i decided to go on the internet to find out if anybody else heard anything, and if it was the same noise i heard ……, It was. Intriguing, but I can only speculate to what it may be. If its a hoax then someone or some people must be strategically playing the noise through a loud speaker( or whatever else),for us to hear this, if this actually is the case.

  6. Just think its interesting that I know people here in my state that heard it, and I know people in florida that also heard it. If its a hoax then damn how do you hoax the whole world?
