The Buzz: Star Wars, The Avengers, Justice League, and More!

The Buzz is a feature in which we round up the Top 3 most-buzzed-about movie/TV stories of the week (in more-or-less chronological order). Why go through pages of blogs just to find out what everyone is talking about? We’ve got it all right here in The Buzz.
1) Star Wars Prequels Coming in 3D
The 3D re-release craze isn’t going away anytime soon. For a relatively small cost of converting to 3D, studios are able to add more money to their bottom line. For instance, Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace made over $100 million during it’s 3D run this year. We all knew that Episodes II and III would be coming sometime soon, and this week we got confirmation that the two prequels will be released on September 20, 2013 and October 11, 2013, respectively. The news has brought back the anger that a lot of Star Wars fans feel towards the prequels, though at this point people shouldn’t be surprised by George Lucas trying to make more money. 2) Avengers News
Just yesterday morning, Marvel announced that The Avengers would be coming back to theaters for Labor Day weekend. The move serves two purposes: It takes advantage of a weak Labor Day weekend line up in order to build on the film’s already incredible box office record, and it helps promote the DVD/Blu-ray release on September 25th. This week we got to see some cool deleted scenes from the movie, which director Joss Whedon talked about. Also, Marvel finally revealed the ABC show Joss Whedon will be producing is centered around S.H.I.E.L.D., though not much else is known about the project.
1) Justice League Rumors
Ben Affleck killed two birds with one stone by slamming down the rumor that he might direct the Justice League movie that is in the works at Warner Bros., while also taking a jab at film websites. However, the new rumor is that WB darlings the Wachowskis (makers of the Matrix trilogy) are being looked at to helm the DC Comics superhero mash-up. The other big Justice League rumor this week is that a rebooted Batman would be introduced in the film, and there won’t be a stand-alone Batman film until after Justice League. Overall, it seems like the DC line up is a mess, and Warner Bros. is just trying to cash in on the success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe without figuring out why that worked.
