Petition For Construction of Death Star Hits Threshold To Require Government Response Dan Koelsch, December 13, 2012 A few days ago I noticed an entry on the White House petition website that made me laugh, but I didn’t much of it. The petition was for the US government to start building a Death Star (as seen in Star Wars) by 2016. Obviously, it sounds pretty silly, but just today it got the necessary signatures to require the White House to respond. The White House’s official petition page called “We the People” is a great way for the public to have their voice heard. Anyone can draft a petition, and anyone can digitally sign any petition. Once a petition gets 25,000 signatures within 30 days of being created, the White House (eventually) responds officially on the website. That’s the deal. So, with this Death Star Petition hitting threshold just one day before their 30 day deadline, the Obama Administration will have to respond. Read the text of the petition below, and you can still sign it while we wait.WE PETITION THE OBAMA ADMINISTRATION TO:Secure resources and funding, and begin construction of a Death Star by 2016.Those who sign here petition the United States government to secure funding and resources, and begin construction on a Death Star by 2016.By focusing our defense resources into a space-superiority platform and weapon system such as a Death Star, the government can spur job creation in the fields of construction, engineering, space exploration, and more, and strengthen our national defense.Created: Nov 14, 2012 Issues: Defense, Job Creation, Science and Space PolicyDo you think the US should build a Death Star?
