Trailers Weekly is a feature in which we bring you the most popular and talked about trailers of the week. Sharing trailers is a classic viral practice, and trailers are still the most mainstream way for people to learn about movies. This week provided us with some very exciting trailers. With 2012 coming to a close, studios are releasing some thrilling trailers for their upcoming tentpoles. This week we have trailers for After Earth, The Lone Ranger, This Is 40, G.I. Oblivion
A giant war giant an unrelenting threat has turned the world into a vast wasteland. But the survivors have moved on and have taken refuge on nearby planets. However there were a few who stayed, and one lone pod repair man is about to have everything he knows tested when a mysterious pod carrying an equally mysterious woman crash lands onto earth. Directed by Tron: Legacy’s Joseph Kosinski, Oblivion stars Tom Cruise, Morgan Freeman, Olga Kurylenko, Andrea Riseborough, and opens in theaters on April 19th, 2013.
After Earth
It’s hard to get on board a movie that is being directed by someone who has a huge losing streak. M. Night Shyamalan’s After Earth looks good, but can the whole father-son bonding experience be interesting enough for audiences? Sure making film stars Will Smith and his real-life son Jaden Smith be the father and son is nice, but Shymalan must have more in store for us than just a father and son surviving on an Earth that has been left vacant for 1,000s of years. After Earth hits theaters on June 7th, 2013.
This is 40
Watching this latest red-band trailer for This is 40, I can tell you that a majority of it isn’t even in the final cut. But that really doesn’t matter since the film is a fantastic movie. Written and directed by Judd Apatow, This is 40 is the quasi-sequel to Knocked Up and follows Pete and Debbie (Paul Rudd & Leslie Mann) as they try to navigate their lives after turning 40. This is 40 opens in theaters December 21.
The Lone Ranger
High yo Silver, AWAY! A brand new exciting trailer for The Lone Ranger has come out, only a day before it was announced that Jack White would be no longer conducting the score for the film. Gore Verbsinski’ vision of the classic western stars Armie Hammer as the icon cowboy vigilante who teams up with the Native America spirit warrior Tonto (Johnny Depp) to stop a nefarious man from claiming the west as his. The Lone Ranger opens in theaters on July 4, 2013.
G.I. Joe Retaliation
After what looked like Paramount scrambling to recover because of a major scheduling change, the marketing team is amping up its campaign for G.I. Joe Retaliation once more. Lets all just pretend that the previously released trailers didn’t happen, because this is more or less the same thing that we have seen. Of course there were a few new scenes added to keep you glued. G.I. Joe Retaliation is directed by Jon Chu (Justin Bieber: Never Say Never) and opens in theaters on March 29, 2013.
Zero Dark Thirty
Before Kathryn Bigelow‘s hunt for Osama Bin Laden movie hits theaters for special engagements on December 19th, Sony has released one final trailer for you to watch. The film has already received rave reviews and major award accolades along the way. You know the story, Zero Dark Thirty centers on the very people involved in the hunt and killing of Osama Bin Laden. Jessica Chastin, Mark Strong, Joel Edgerton, and more star.
