“Gone Girl” Trailer Launches A Terrific Bone Chilling Viral Campaign Michael Lee, April 14, 2014April 17, 2014 David Fincher may have dropped out as director of Sony Pictures’ upcoming Steve Jobs’ biopic, but we still have his adaptation of Gillian Flynn‘s mega-bestseller Gone Girl to look forward to. Now at first it may seem like a film like this would not have a viral marketing campaign. But if you look closely at the newly released trailer, you’ll find that it does. It may not be as extensive as some of the other viral marketing campaigns we have covered, but the Gone Girl viral marketing does set a precedence, with it’s strange website, and interesting faux tip hotline. Hit the jump to see the first Gone Girl teaser, plus a look at the viral marketing campaign is all about. Now calling the 1-855-4-AMY-TIPS (1-855-426-98477) number – yes it doesn’t follow the usual 1-3-3-4 but the number does work – will lead you to a recording of someone reading the opening pages of Flynn’s book. Hearing it read with such a monotone voice with the cold and lulling music definitely will send chills down your spine. Next up, the website, http://www.findamazingamy.com/. This will lead you to a Fox New affiliate’s coverage of character’s missing wife. It comes complete with a news ticker and Dow Jones numbers. If you stay on the screen long enough, you see some spliced clips from the trailer itself popping up on screen. There are also links to the film’s official Twitter, Facebook, and Google Plus profiles, as well as a link to the trailer on Apple. Here’s the full trailer: It should be interesting to see if Fincher’s latest film follows the same path as The Social Network and The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. We’ll keep you up to date should any updates come up. Opening in theaters on October 3, Gone Girl stars Ben Affleck, Rosamund Pike, Neil Patrick Harris, Tyler Perry, Kim Dickens, Patrick Fugit, Carrie Coon, and David Clennon.
