‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Chracter Names Revealed On Trading Cards

Normally we’d learn about characters through the source material, a plot synopsis, or straight from the cast or crew. But given that everyone is so tight-lipped about Star Wars: The Force Awakens, trying to get information like names of the characters is next to impossible. We already know that the film is canon, and will see the return of Luke, Leia, Han, Chewbacca, R2-D2, C-3PO, and more iconic starships. Plus the Sith. But since the trailer dropped a few weeks back, we don’t know who John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, or Oscar Issac is playing. We also don’t now who the Sith with the broadsword is – maybe it is Adam Driver. And we cannot just keep calling the rolling droid a soccer ball.

Now in a very cool move, EW has revealed the names of the characters seen in the trailer on trading cards. Okay, they aren’t actually trading cards, however, these images resemble the trading cards of yesteryear, and even us the Star Wars designs. Hit the jump to see them all.

We already know about the Tie Fighters, The new X-Wing models, the Millennium Falcon, and the Stormtroopers, but here are some other things we learned about the trading cards,
The Soccer Ball droid is BB-8
Oscar Isaac is Poe Dameron
The Sith’s name is Kylo Ren
Daisy Ridley is Rey
John Boyega is Finn

BB-8
Finn
Kylo Ren
Millennium Falcon
Poe Dameron
Rey
Stormtrooper
X-Wings

Of eight that have been released, two of the characters, Rey and Finn, do not have last names. Obviously this is pretty significant given that if that information was shared it would automatically reveal the character’s linage.

Now the captions also reveal a few things as well. For instance “Finn On The Run!” could mean that he may have defected from the Stormtrooper unit, or he is running away from a botched infiltration. The Sith’s name reveal doesn’t give us any details as to who he or she may be.

And do the card numbers have any merit to them, or are they just merely numbers on a card?

Here are the list of cards just in case

  • #11 — BB-8 on the move
  • #53 — Poe Dameron in his X-Wing
  • #67 — Kylo Ren ignites his Lightsaber
  • #74 — Rey on her Speeder
  • #76 — Finn on the run
  • #81 — Stormtroopers prepare for battle
  • #88 — X-Wings in formation
  • #96 — The Millennium Falcon
  • As you can see, the card numbers do not match the order of reveals in the trailer. So maybe the numbers do, have meaning; maybe they don’t. I think it’s the latter, because using the numbers to reveal the sequence of events would be pretty irresponsible and very spoilery.

But before we can end this post, here is what J.J. Abrams had to say about the debut of the cards.

“I’m only sorry we couldn’t give everyone a stick of gum.”

If only we could be so lucky to get bubblegum from Abrams.
