New Scott Pilgrim vs. The World Contest Wants You To Battle Other Bands

Alex Gerage, May 6, 2010July 10, 2010

Calling all musicians! If you are part of a budding band and are also excited for the new Edgar Wright film, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, then there’s a contest going on you might want to check out. Hit the jump for more details.

Sonicbids and Scott Pilgrim vs. the World have joined forces to bring us the “Indie Rock vs. the World” contest. Head over to their website for the full press release, or take a look at a quick except below:

“Enter the Indie Rock vs. the World contest now, where in the spirit of Scott Pilgrim’s battles to win his true love, bands will battle for their honor and love of music. Top 100 artists as voted by the online community will move onto round two, where they’ll be reviewed by an industry judging panel. During the month of June, the top 8 bands chosen by the panel will have the chance to make their own music videos with clips and images from Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. From there, these bands and their videos will face off in a head-to-head, bracketed “battle of the bands” to determine the Grand Prize winner. Along the way, the top 8 will have great opportunities for exposure and prizes, including having their contest videos featured in stores of a major nationwide retail chain. Plus, top 8 artists will receive an Mbox® 2 Pro Factory recording package from Avid (retail value $899).”

The site further explains that the winning band will perform at a “talent-filled Scott Pilgrim event” later in the summer, and the video they create will be included in the film’s DVD.

The contest sounds like a blast. I’m curious to see how these music videos will be made and if they will be posted online for everyone to see. Although this appears to be a standalone contest, I hope this is a sign that Universal Studios will be aggressive with their marketing for the film, and some sort of viral campaign isn’t out of the question. There are a lot of opportunities in the Scott Pilgrim universe to take advantage of.

So, what are you waiting for? Time to get your act together and make some music. Scott Pilgrim vs. the World hits theaters August 13th.
