Trailers Weekly: Skyline, How Do You Know, Avatar Re-Release, Love and Other Drugs, and The Next Three Days Dan Koelsch, August 14, 2010 Trailers Weekly is a feature in which we bring you the most popular and talked about trailers of the week. Sharing trailers is a classic viral practice, and trailers are still the most mainstream way for people to learn about movies. This week we have several more trailers for you, two for films I’ve already seen. This makes me excited for November. Skyline (November 12, 2010)The first look we got of Universal Studios’ Skyline came at Comic-Con, but now we have the first trailer for the alien invasion flick. With no major talent attached (the biggest name they have is Donald Faison of Scrubs), it looks like Universal is relying on the high concept premise and cool special effects to sell the picture. How Do You Know (December 17, 2010)The upcoming How Do You Know does not have a problem with a lack of big names. Academy Award winner James L. Brooks (Terms of Endearment) wrote and directed the romantic comedy, which stars Reese Witherspoon, Paul Rudd, Owen Wilson, and Jack Nicholson. Unfortunately, the movie, about a love triangle, looks boring and not funny at all. Avatar (August 27, 2010)The re-release of the biggest movie of all time has a new trailer, which is really just a TV spot. There doesn’t seem to be much to say about it, but it’s definitely getting a lot of people talking. Love and Other Drugs (November 24, 2010)This is the second movie on today’s list I’ve seen, though this was an early screening, so they could have changed a lot for the final release. The version of Love and Other Drugs that I saw was funny, but very long and didn’t have a good pace. There was also a lot of nudity, especially from the leads Anne Hathaway and Jake Gyllenhaal. What’s interesting is that the trailer actually shows clips from the film’s climax, but doesn’t reveal a major story development that shapes the second half of film. The Next Three Days (November 19, 2010)The Paul Haggis film stars Russell Crowe as a father who must break his wife out of jail when she is (wrongly?) convicted of murder. The high-octane film looks exciting, and having Liam Neeson as Crowe’s prison break tutor is pretty awesome. What did you think of this week’s trailers? Of course, every week there are a lot more trailers, teasers, TV spots, and clips that we can’t cover, so go to TrailerAddict.com to see your favorites, and to watch at least some of the ones above in High Definition.
