“Firefly Between the Lines” Fan-Made Audio Drama Begins Auditions Dan Koelsch, December 4, 2010 I may not be a full-fledged Browncoat, but I am definitely a big fan of the short-lived television show Firefly. On the FOX show, executive producer Joss Whedon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) blended two of my favorite genres perfectly: westerns and sci-fi. Now some fans look to expand on the universe Whedon created with an audio drama that takes place before the events of the show. The podcast is called “Firefly Between the Lines”, and the production is currently in the audition phase. If the title and concept sound familiar to you, it’s because the people behind this fan fiction series are no strangers to this kind of effort. Tabitha Grace Smith and Kim Butler are the same producers behind the audio dramas “Buffy Between the Lines” and “Angel Between the Lines“. See the trend? These Whedon fans won’t stop until there’s a “Titan A.E. Between The Lines”. All kidding aside, the “__ Between the Lines” series is a great example of how cult followings can be productive and often creative. This time around, the non-profit series tackles what happened before the events of Firefly. Auditions are open until December 18th, and you don’t have to sound exactly like the character to get the part.Yep, not all of our actors are exact copies of the original actors. We actually were looking for people who could capture the “essence” of a character, so even if Mal doesn’t sound like Nathan Fillion he still sounds like Buffy might sound if cast differently. For more information on the series and how to offer your services as cast or crew, go to FireflyBetweenTheLines.com.
