Oscar Nominations Announced, Snubs Spark Online Outrage

The biggest award show in Hollywood is drawing closer, and we’ve taken the first big step this morning with the announcement of the nominees for the Academy Awards. Like usual, there are some surprising snubs, but none more so than Christopher Nolan not getting nominated for Best Director for Inception, despite the film lighting up the nomination boards, including Best Picture. With plenty of fanboys online, you know that the snub has sparked outrage most easily seen on Twitter and film blogs. Get the full list of nominees after the break.

While The Social Network (along with Inception) got a strong 8 nominations, The King’s Speech won out the day with 12 nods, followed by True Grit with 10. Speaking of the Facebook movie, some feel that the film’s supporting actors got snubbed, with Andrew Garfield and Armie Hammer in the running for the spot. The biggest snub in my opinion, however, was TRON: Legacy, which only received one nomination (for Best Sound Editing). As much as I respect the composers in the Original Score category, how Daft Punk didn’t receive a nod is beyond me. It didn’t surprise me though, as they’ve been snubbed all award season.
