Trailers Weekly: “American Reunion”, “Project X”, “21 Jump Street”, and “Safe House” Dan Koelsch, November 5, 2011 Trailers Weekly is a feature in which we bring you the most popular and talked about trailers of the week. Sharing trailers is a classic viral practice, and trailers are still the most mainstream way for people to learn about movies. This week’s Trailers Weekly has the first trailers for American Reunion, Project X, 21 Jump Street, and Safe House. Catch them all after the break. American ReunionThe 4th theatrical installment of the American Pie series, out April 6th, takes us to the gang’s high school reunion. The Internet response to this, the first real trailer for the movie, has been mixed, with many thinking this is just a cash grab from the studio and actors, while many (like myself) actually found the trailer funny and are at least interested in seeing if they can capture the magic again. Project XThe big selling point for this found-footage comedy about a high school party going out of the control is that Todd Phillips is producing. Unfortunately, without any interesting characters being present in this first trailer, I can’t see it being appealing outside of the gimmicks, and the comments on blogs seem to validate that sentiment. The film opens in theaters on March 2nd. 21 Jump StreetWe reported on the Twitter competition earlier this week that promised to reveal the red band trailer for the 21 Jump Street adaptation, due out March 16th. The response has been mixed, but most agree it looks dumb (some thing it at least looks funny dumb). I don’t like how it loses the essence of the original TV show. What do you think? Safe HouseIn theaters on February 12th, Safe House is a CIA thriller starring Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds. With a set up like that, it’s hard not to think this will at least be decent, and the Internet buzz is saying just that. While the trailer is a bit cliche, it’s still effective. What did you think of this week’s trailers? Which was your favorite? Do you agree with the Internet buzz? Of course, every week there are a lot more trailers, teasers, TV spots, and clips that we can’t cover, so go to TrailerAddict.com to see your favorites. You can also download trailers in HD at Apple.com, or the new iTunes Movie Trailers App on your iPhone or iPad.
