Film Blogs Receive Mysterious “Alcatraz” Boxes Dan Koelsch, January 11, 2012 Producer J.J. Abrams is back in the mystery business with his new show Alcatraz, which is set to debut January 16th on FOX. To promote the upcoming premiere, FOX sent out mysterious boxes full of Alctraz stuff to various film blogs. Get the details after the break. The dirty metal box included such items as the “Discover Alcatraz” guidebook, a flower, an old-style key with “Alcatraz” stamped on it, a page from a magazine, a newspaper clipping about the closing of Alcatraz, two Alcatraz post cards and mug shots of Alcatraz prisoners (as portrayed by stars of the show). There is also a lot of Ford advertising, so it seems that the car company sponsored this marketing. You can see all the photos of the box and its contents over at Badass Digest. The only thing of note in this bundle was the magazine page, which has a review of the book “Inmates of Alcatraz”. Letters circled in the review spell out “Legends of Alcatraz”, the URL of which takes you to the Ford subpage of the FOX Alcatraz website. There’s a countdown to the series premiere with the teaser line “Watch the show, then join the adventure here”.It looks like we’ll have to wait until the premiere to see if this goes anywhere.
