Trailers Weekly: “Djinn,” “Friends with Kids,””Shut up and Play the Hits,” “Moonrise Kingdom,” “West of Memphis” Michael Lee, January 14, 2012December 27, 2012 Trailers Weekly is a feature in which we bring you the most popular and talked about trailers of the week. Sharing trailers is a classic viral practice, and trailers are still the most mainstream way for people to learn about movies. This week was a relatviely slow week in terms of movie trailer releases. No big tentpole movie trailers, but that shouldn’t deter you from watching these potentially good movies. This week we saw trailers for Djinn, Friends with Kids, Shut up and Play the Hits, Moonrise Kingdom, West of Memphis and Casa de mi Padre. Hit the jump to check out these great trailers. Djinn Perhaps one of the strangest trailers I have come across since I started to write this weekly feature. Is it a horror or is it a political thriller, maybe its a hybrid. Either way, I am not here to stir up international conflict. Djinn comes from Tobe Hooper, director of The Exas Chainsaw Massacre, and has yet to have a release date. The movie was filmed entirely in the United Arab Emirates early last year. Friends with Kids The first trailer for Friends with Kids has finally arrived and I have to say I am pleasantly surprised by the clips that were in the trailer. It seems to be a fun and heartharming romantic comedy about two people in a relationship who won’t commit but wants to have kids. The film was written and directed by Jennifer Westfeldt.Shut Up and Play the Hits An entire movie about the LCD Soundsystem, one of my favorite music groups, is great. Sadly its about their last performances at the Madison Square Garden. Still if the trailer looks this good, then we can expect a great tribute to one amazing band. Moonrise Kingdom You can always expect a sense of quirkiness and genuine comedy when watching a Wes Anderson film. Then there is the stellar cast, awesome music, and Bill Murray & Jason Scwartzman. The film will follow two young lovers in 1960s New England, and the “massive” search that ensues when they go missing.West of Memphis West of Memphis is Peter Jackson’s documentary that will explore one of the greatest atrocities in the American Justice System. The movie documents how three boys were wrongly convicted of a crime and unjustly sentence to prison for 18 years. Casa de mi Padre Another trailer for Will Ferrell’s Spanish language comedy has appeared online. At first many were hesistant to even accept the fact that this movie was being made, but the more trailers and clips that appeared online, the more people warmed up to the idea. Casa de mi Padre looks hilarious and brings back that SNL-esque comedy that we all know and love. What did you think of this week’s trailers? Which was your favorite?
