2012 Viral: Preservation Lists and Charlie Frost Ads

Dan Koelsch, August 4, 2009August 6, 2009

Sony has launched a new website called 2012preservationlist.net, where they ask you, “What Would You Take With You in 2012?”. It makes sense that someone should start coming up with a list of artwork worth preserving after the world is destroyed. The site has four sections: Film, Art, Literature, and Music, where you can enter your nomination for what should be preserved. Currently, only the film section is open for submissions, but you can see for each section the dates for nominations and voting.

The idea is pretty cool, though I don’t know what the endgame is here. There’s no hook to get people interested in participating. Also, I would think that this kind of event would be done within their viral campaign. It would make more sense for the IHC to be conducting this survey. I have no idea why they didn’t think to tie it in.

Last note about this site: You may notice on the top it says “At cinemas from December 11”. We’re not sure why, since to our knowledge, the film is still slated to open November 13th of this year.

Charlie Frost is going all out lately with the updates. He has some billboards in Los Angeles, and promises more are to come.

What do you think of the new site and Charlie Frost’s ads?

Update: A representative from Sony confirmed the film is still opening in November for the US, and that the date on site was meant to reflect the international release.

I feel bad, we’ve been saying November 20th is the release date in almost every article we’ve posted. Maybe they changed it again, or maybe we were always wrong.
