The Buzz: Batman, X-Men: Days of Future Past, and Star Wars Dan Koelsch, February 15, 2013 The Buzz is a feature in which we round up the Top 3 most-buzzed-about movie/TV stories of the week (in more-or-less chronological order). Why go through pages of blogs just to find out what everyone is talking about? We’ve got it all right here in The Buzz. 1) When Will We Next See Batman? With the future of DC Comics movie being completely up in the air, as well as dependent on the success of Man of Steel, fans might be wondering when the most filmed superhero, Batman, will return to the big screen. This week, an article on Batman-On-Film got picked up by blogs talked about the possible future for the Caped Crusader. It sounds like mostly speculation, but the idea is that Warner Bros. definitely wants to reboot Batman, but they aren’t sure when. Depending on the success of the Justice League movie (which is in development hell), we might not see The Dark Knight again until 2019.2) “X-Men: Days of Future Past” Gets VillainAs production on the X-Men sequel gets closer, we are getting more and more news. The juiciest bit this week was the announcement that Peter Dinklage, recently famous for his role as Tyrion Lannister on HBO’s Game of Thrones, has been cast in the film. While his role has not been made official, Variety is saying that he is the main antagonist. As a bit fan of Dinklage, I am excited for this. Director Brian Singer also gave other updates on the film this week, mentioning that Richard Nixon would be in the film and wouldn’t give a straight answer about whether Nightcrawler (previously played by Alan Cumming) or Storm (Halle Berry) would return. However, Singer did confirm that movie would be shot in 3D.3) We Can’t Go A Week Without “Star Wars” News The biggest rumor this week regarding J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: Episode VII is also the latest one. Supposedly, Harrison Ford has now signed on to reprise his role of Han Solo, for which he had previously expressed interest in. Once again, it was Latino Review that got the scoop, but there has been no confirmation from Disney. In other Star Wars news, IGN was able to get Lawrence Kasdan and Simon Kinberg, writers and producers on the new trilogy, to talk about the films a bit, while /Film has a nice rundown of some of the other stories circling the franchise.
