Trailers Weekly: “Oldboy”, “The Canyons”, “Saving Mr. Banks”, “Out of the Furnace”

TrailersWeekly

Trailers Weekly is a feature in which we bring you the most popular and talked about trailers of the week. Sharing trailers is a classic viral practice, and trailers are still the most mainstream way for people to learn about movies. This week we have trailers for Oldboy, The Canyons, Saving Mr. Banks, and Out of the Furnace. There won’t be any Trailers Weekly next week as I will be out with the MovieViral crew to cover some of the San Diego Comic-Con festivities.

Oldboy
It may look like it’s a shot-for-shot remake, but Spike Lee‘s adaptation of Oldboy looks stunning. He claims that he will stay true to the source material and pay homage to Park Chan-wook’s film while adding a few of his own twists. Which is something almost every director says when making an adaptation of an adaptation. But we’ll see where this leads. Starring Josh Brolin, Rooney Mara, Samuel L. Jackson, and more, Oldboy opens in theaters on October 25.

The Canyons
Directed by Paul Schrader and written by Bret Easton Ellis. The Canyons have been quietly making its rounds by word of mouth. Odd way of promoting a film, but judging by how it looks – the noir style, the risque acts, the controversy – it could make a descent run at the limited box office. The Canyons stars actress Lindsay Lohan and porn star James Deen, and will opens in theaters on August 2.

Saving Mr. Banks
One of the first trailers of the year that is just gushing Oscar potential, Disney’s Saving Mr. Banks follows the story of Mr. Walt Disney (Tom Hanks) trying to convince P.L. Travers (Emma Thompson) that Mary Poppins will be on the silver screen. Travers is not swayed by Disney’s charm, and will nearly kill the deal, but Disney comes to realize that that is much more to her story than what is written on a page. Bradley Whitford, Paul Giamatti, Jason Schwartzman, and B.J. Novak also star. Saving Mr. Banks opens in theaters on December 20.

Out of the Furnace
Christian Bale looks to give another fantastic performance in Scott Cooper’s Oscar potential, Out of the Furnace. The film centers on a blue collar worker who attempts to get his brother (Casey Affleck) out of a crime ring led by a dangerous crime lord (Woody Harrelson). But after finding out that his brother is missing, he takes matters into his own hands. The film also stars Forest Whitaker, Willem Dafoe, Zoe Saldana, and Sam Shepard. Out of the Furnace opens in theaters on November 27.

What did you think of this week’s trailers? Which was your favorite? Do you agree with the Internet buzz? Of course, every week there are a lot more trailers, teasers, TV spots, and clips that we can’t cover, so go to TrailerAddict.com to see your favorites. You can also download trailers in HD at Apple.com, or the new iTunes Movie Trailers App on your iPhone or iPad.
