“Oldboy” Hotel Posters Welcomes You To A Horrifying Stay Michael Lee, September 17, 2013September 17, 2013 The Oldboy tagline begs the question “Ask not why you were imprisoned, ask why you are set free.” Josh Brolin plays Joe Doucett, a man who is held against his will for no reason in a hotel with no way out, and then mysteriously set free years later. Charged with a crime he did not commit, Doucett sets out to find out who did to him and clear his name. With the Spike Lee-directed remake opening in theaters on November 27, the marketing for the film is slowly amping up. The first set of posters featuring the terrifying hotel promoting all the hotel’s features and amities have been released via the film’s website HotelOldboy.com – which is actually just another tumblr site.Hit the jump to see all the posters, and a video featuring Samuel L. Jackson talking about how no one released from the hotel has talked about their stay at it.Honestly, I expected a little bit more effort to come from the marketing department. These posters seem too generic and tounge-and-cheek. The ironic posters like “Room With A View Available,” “Enjoy A Lifetime Of Learning,” “On-The-Spot Maid Service,” “Three-In-Room Meals A Day,” “24/7 Private Security,” Medical Professionals On Stall,” feature Brolin’s character in his grisly captivity. While these posters are a bit on the weak side, I think it will get better as there is still a full month to go before the Oldboy hits theaters. Here’s the official synopsis for Oldboy:OLDBOY is a provocative, visceral thriller that follows the story of an advertising executive (Josh Brolin) who is abruptly kidnapped and held hostage for 20 years in solitary confinement. When he is inexplicably released, he embarks on an obsessive mission to discover who orchestrated his bizarre and torturous punishment only to find he is still trapped in a web of conspiracy and torment.
