2012: San Francisco Drop Results (Update: Code Broken!)

Dan Koelsch, October 21, 2009October 22, 2009

Update: The code for the message has been decoded! Thanks to Rowan for the effort, it was apparently very difficult. Take a look:

Re: Project Naaczaal

Status Briefing, October 20

We have encountered some significant challenges regarding site location, and we are bringing our allies to table to negotiate on our behalf. We are examining a number of fallback options, but do not believe this will present a serious impediment to our schedule.

Our effort to preserve cultural artifacts is proceeding on track, but we foresee some obstacles on the horizon.

Due to our recent funding situation, we are cutting the budget for over-the-table acquisition and relying more on covert methods and persussion.

I may not be able to obtain every item desired, but we are confident that we will reach an acceptable percentage.

All staff, please note that this overview is Eyes Only and should be deleted after reading.

So, not as big of a deal as I thought it would be. Just more talk about under the table dealings and saving artifacts, though the fact that funding may be an issue is interesting. I’ll admit it’s kind of a let down, but let’s wait and see if anything happens in the next day or two.

Today was the last drop-off for the IHC packages, and thanks to forum member Anh (aka “William.M.Buttlicker”) for retrieving a package for us. For a full rundown of what this conspiracy is about, check out our previous posts on the subject. Like usual, we got a coded message and a series of schematics in PDF format. What’s different this time is that the code has yet to be broken. Although two different ciphers were used for the previous codes, they were all relatively simple. This one, however, uses neither cipher and the usual ARG players on Unfiction haven’t been able to crack it yet. So, if you can crack the code, we’ll give you credit! Here it is:

It’s a long one, I know. Judging by its size and unusual code, this last message must be important. So, what could help us figure it out? Two things. First, the images that came in the package might be a clue (though it is a stretch). Take a look and see if anything pops out at you:

2012

2012

2012

Doesn’t look like much to me, but who knows? The second thing that might be a clue is that first chapter and foreword to Farewell Atlantis that is available on the book’s homepage. My source tells me that the book is important to the ARG, so maybe now is the time. Read it over and see if you can find any clues.

2012 is in theaters November 13th and you can discuss these updates to the viral in the comments below, or on our forum. Also check out the MovieViral 2012 page for more info on the film and its viral campaign.

The first chapter is the key for the solve… but it’s way too time consuming for my liking.

Give Rowan some major props because that stuff wasn’t easy. Apparently the dude encoding it sucked and there were a bunch of mistakes in it.
