The Asylum Strikes Again: Check Out These Two 2012 Knock-Offs Dan Koelsch, November 3, 2009November 3, 2009 For those who are blissfully unaware of the “movie” studio called The Asylum, all you really need to know is that they make cheap straight-to-DVD knock-offs of big movies. They are pretty notorious to film buffs, as they aren’t exactly subtle about their original source. It’s kind of like a running joke. To give you a better idea, here are the trailers for two of their previous releases, Monster and I Am Omega. See if you can guess what movie they are ripping off. It looks like the infamous studio is at it again, and this time they’ve picked a film to rip off that hits a little closer to home for us. That’s right, The Asylum has not one, but TWO films based on Roland Emmerich’s upcoming 2012. To be fair, the first one, 2012: DOOMSDAY was released last year, but with the studio’s fast production turn-around, it seems likely it was created during the midst of the film’s original hype. Check out the trailer for that film: The newer film also strays from the storyline in order to separate it from the big budget Sony blockbuster. 2012: SUPERNOVA was just released on DVD last week, and its plot is harebrained yet intriguing. When a star in a nearby galaxy becomes unstable and goes supernova, an astrophysicist puts together a dangerous and desperate plan to sheild the Earth from the destructive burst of radiation heading toward it. Here is the trailer for that film: Check out The Asylum homepage for more information on the films, not to mention the awesomely bad trailer for a film called Megafault starring Brittany Murphy. I don’t understand how one studio could make two 2012 films (that are not related from what I can tell) in the span of one year, but I guess that’s The Asylum for you. What do you think? The real 2012 releases in theaters November 13th. News 2012

the two knock offs 2012 doomsday and also supernova were terrible. only thing interesting was the end credits. not fit to wipe your ass with. probably less than a week to film my friend. probably less budget than a cheap porn flick.
