American Idol Audition Clip Goes Viral, Gets Parodied Dan Koelsch, January 15, 2010January 15, 2010 Since there has been a YouTube, there has always been an outlet for television clips that would otherwise go unnoticed and wash away into the abyss. Sometimes it can be hurtful to a television show to have clips leak online, but usually it’s a great way to get more eyes on your content. No genre of TV has seen more assistance from the Internet than talent shows. You may remember Susan Boyle’s performance on the British show X-Factor (soon to be brought over the States). If not, definitely check out the video her audition. That clip got over 36 million views and got people talking about the show. American Idol has also seen success from the Internet, but usually in a different way. Some of the worst or funniest performances on the show go straight up the YouTube charts and into our hearts. This season is no exception, as we get a hilarious audition on the first night! The video, which has already gotten almost a million views in less than 2 days, shows an older contestant singing about pulling your pants up. A lesson we could all learn. Check it out: The clip is ripe for parodies, remixes, and the usual, and Jimmy Fallon has already jumped on board. On his show last night, he did his own take on the “Pants On The Ground” song…as Neil Young. Take a look: I love Fallon’s Neil Young impression, and his Fresh Prince cover is just as good as this. To try to spot more viral-ready auditions, check out American Idol on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 8/7c on FOX. Viral Marketing American IdolJimmy FallonLarry Platt

You didn’t do your Susan Boyle research before writing this lame bit. I didn’t watch the Idol clip and will not be watching Idol this season. America need not be desperate for the American version of Susan Boyle. The British version of Susan Boyle is the only one there is even though Americans have not seen much of her since we made her and Simon Cowell filthy rich. I look forward to watching the American version of X-Factor flop and Idol ratings decline. Simon Cowell can keep his talent shows in Britain along with all the bs that goes with them.
Susan Boyle is an immensely talented lady who’s been subjected to considerable pressure in the media. IMHO she deserves every bit of success that she is currently enjoying.
