District 9 Trailer Review and Analysis Dan Koelsch, May 1, 2009March 28, 2010 The first official teaser trailer has finally been released for the much anticipated (at least on our forums) District 9, the alien-apartheid film produced by Peter Jackson. The trailer is attached to Wolverine this weekend, so those going to the midnight showing got the first look, though it was released online at midnight PDT. First of all, I think the teaser was very effective. It maybe showed a bit too much alien and too little story, but when that text “they are not human” comes up, I got a chill. The film centers around Wikus (Sharlto Copley), a Multi-National United agent who becomes infected by alien biotechnology. He must go on the run from the oppressive government into District 9, a internment camp where “non-humans” have been forced to live since landing on Earth nearly 30 years ago. Download the trailer here, and check out some of the more interesting screencaps after the jump, including a shot of an alien! After shots of South Africa and a local talking, we finally get a Multi-National United tank and soldiers on what looks like the perimeter of District 9. More talking, then we get a shot of slums that aliens probably live in. Even more talking, then a few shots of the perimeter again. Pretty ominous. We see more shots of the human area of Joburg (where the film supposedly takes place) and military scenes, including MNU soldiers jumping out a helicopter and looking for a fight. And then we finally see the spaceship. Pretty powerful image, especially in context. A little closer look at the ship. And then the big whammy: the alien. Not that scary from afar, but seeing it in such a gritty human setting is a little disturbing. However, the close-up of the alien IS kind of scary. Finally we see who I assume is Wikus looking at the spaceship from a distance. So, all-in-all, it was a good teaser. Definitely an interesting concept, and the CGI looks good so far. To see bigger versions of the pictures, save them to your computer or copy their image addresses. Reviews Viral Marketing District 9ReviewTrailer
