Kick-Ass: New Hit Girl Trailer and Real Life Superheroes

I’ll admit that I am one of the few people in my field who is not that excited about Matthew Vaughn’s Kick-Ass. I’ve never read the comic, and the trailers and posters so far have not made me any more a believer. That was until I saw this puppy embedded below, courtesy of Trailer Addict. It’s the red band trailer for “Hit Girl”, a character in the film. It’s definitely worth a look.





It the rest of the movie has that same tone and action, I’m in.


In other Kick-Ass news, the film taken over the Real Life SuperHeroes homepage, with the customary background and regular ads all being taken up. For those unfamiliar with the website, it basically brings the concept of Kick-Ass to the real world (which is of course why it’s perfect for the film’s advertising). Here’s a blurb from the site about what they do:

The Real Life Superheroes is a grassroots movement that works in a fun, exciting, and inspirational fashion to make the world a better place. We are using the iconicism of comic book superheroes to make a difference, inspire others, spread a positive message, and call attention to issues in our communities. The Real Life Superheroes work to make the world a better place by doing civic activities, charity work, public safety patrols, hospital visits, school talks, distributing wanted and missing person fliers, helping the homeless, community clean-ups, and more. From crime fighting to charity work real life superheroes seek to help make a positive difference in their communities.



It’s a great concept, and there’s a lot on the site to check out, like events, artwork, videos, and much more. Be sure to head on over there and join the fight!


Kick-Ass, about people without powers who choose to be superheroes, is directed by Matthew Vaughn, whose works include Layer Cake and Stardust. The story is an adaptation of Mark Millar’s comic of the same name that is currently in the middle of its first series. The film is set to release on April 16th, 2010.

  3. Actually tagalong, if you had bothered to read the blurb about the real life superheroes you would see that they ARE a good thing. They actually do things such as feeding the homeless, charity drives, and yes they do fight crime, although they try to do it in a manner that is niether illiegal nor violent. If anyone is interested in learning about the real life superhero community, visit their website at http://www.therlsh.net there are a lot of good men and women there that do great things for their community. Please stop by and see what they are really about before making unfair judgements.

  4. i read this comic and im pretty sure theres no one like this out there, otherwise they would be in jail… this isn’t the best movie to attach themselves too to get the point across… they should of picked skyhigh or batman returns, at lest batman doesn’t kill people…

  5. I thought the comic was ok, but I’ve heard of this group of people before; they’ve done some good stuff for the homeless. Their crimefighting techniques are a bit showy, but sure, I’ll bite.

    I have to agree with the poorly written comment above mine. It’s in poor taste to compare the two. Do they know they’re being referenced in this article? I think I’d distance myself from a movie like this if I was trying to make a real difference in my neighborhood.

    Unless they’re going for that.

  6. You guys are taking this too seriously. When I said the site brings the concept of Kick-Ass to the real world, I meant the concept of anyone being a superhero, however you want to define that. The site defines it more in terms of community service and such, which is great.

    Also, the organization approved the advertising because:
    1. They probably could use the money to support their efforts
    2. It will draw attention to their cause
    3. They get the superficial connection

    Anyone who bothers to look at the site knows they don’t do anything crazy.

It looks to me as if most of their power is based upon the image of their deeds, and the power of their values, otherwise it’s all about how bad ass they look… You’d think that they would see this movie as pretty much against all of their principles and recoil from it… if not, they can’t be very media savvy.

    All in all, I agree with what you said about using the money for the homeless, but there’s no way of really knowing that they’d do that. That’s a naive assumption on your part. We can hope, though…

    I looked at the site, andI honestly haven’t seen a news report yet that shows anything other than overweight guys in spandex, or guys in bright showy costumes bothering homeless people (who just look bewildered as the cameras get in their faces). I think I had more respect for them before visiting this site.

    Now I just feel like these people are looking for their 15 seconds of fame.

    This is seriously a disaster waiting to happen. No, this is a standing disaster as it is.

  8. Wow. Have you even read the forum on this site? I’m trying not to pigeonhole them, but they make it difficult not to classify them as star-struck geeks ( and not the good kind of geeks)… they seem to focus more on the Super Hero News section than the actual discussions. Which all seem to be them congratulating each other on the three blankets they handed out last week.

    Where are the heroes, here? Why are these people special?

  11. Kris, this isn’t based on a true story. The Real Life Superheroes site has a similar concept to the movie in that they are both about regular people being superheroes. They just go about it in different ways.

  12. yeah looks to me like the movie fails becuase they go too far and the real guys fail cause they dont go far enough

    either way, if the real guys are cool with supporting this movie, theyre screwing themselves and there goals for the public because people are goin to think theyre nuts

  15. Attention: Everyone who hasn’t read the comics. Please, shut the hell up. The comics and movies are one in the same. The comics are amazingly over-violent and, they wanted to translate it onto the screen. So far the movie and comic look almost identical to each other and yes, everything you see in the trailer, is in the comic, for the most part. Hit-Girl is extreme in the comic, she has to be, she’s a little girl against mob’s of angry men. Big Daddy does shoot her in the comic and all the cussing is still there. This movie simply won’t fail because it so far looks to be 100% faithful to the comics. I think Kick-Ass is going to be more successful than Watchmen. Watchmen, while amazingly faithful to the graphic novel, save the ending, still didn’t do great for the General Audience because it’s too deep for them. Where-as Kick-Ass is basically just a shoot ’em up movie and the last I checked, the General Audience loved those.
