Piranha 3D Pulled From Comic-Con – UPDATE: Now Offsite Dan Koelsch, July 13, 2010September 3, 2010 We’ve been covering the NSFW Piranha 3D viral campaign pretty extensively, so this news is sort of a bummer. The (probably) cheesy horror flick was scheduled to screen some footage at San Diego Comic-Con this year, but now it looks like it’s too hot for the con. Get the details below. The Weinstein Company’s panel with Piranha 3D on Friday July 23rd at Comic-Con was originally on the schedule, but has now been pulled. Paul Scheer made the claim yesterday that the film in general was banned by Comic-Con, but now CCI is saying that just the footage was restricted for being too adult. In fact, Comic-Con doesn’t ban panels, so The Weinstein Company pulled their presentation for some reason. There’s still a chance they could resubmit, but I’m guessing that without the footage, it may be a lost cause. * * * * * * * * * * * * * UPDATE: Well, this is a clever solution. It looks like Dimension Films WILL be having a panel and screening, but it will be offsite, and they are promoting it as “Too hot for Comic-Con”. Below are the details from the studio (via GeekTyrant).TOO HOT FOR COMIC-CON…You are invited to attend the special San Diego screening of PIRANHA 3D footage – several minutes of never-before-seen footage that is so fantastically bloody and so intense, we couldn’t show it on site at Comic-Con!Presented by director Alex Aja; talent Q&A immediately following the footage.
