“Tron: Uprising” Cartoon Set for 2012 Joey Sharpe, November 5, 2010 It seems as if Disney is going to make Tron fans happy once again. A while ago we were given the news that Disney would be making an animated television series called Tron: Uprising as part of their resurgence of Tron material headlined by TRON: Legacy. Thanks to Variety, we have learned that the Disney XD has ordered the series and it is set to appear sometime in the summer of 2012. Hit the jump to see more. The executive producer and director of this animated series is Charlie Bean (Samurai Jack), so we know for sure it’ll be epic, aside from the fact that it’s Tron and it’ll be epic anyways. Variety also lets us know that the voice cast includes Elijah Wood (Lord of the Rings), Emmanuelle Chriqui (Wrong Turn), Mandy Moore (Tangled), Paul Reubens (Pee Wee’s Playhouse), Nate Corddry (Yogi Bear) and Lance Henriksen (Cyrus),” and that Bruce Boxleitner will reprise his original role of Tron. The writers for this series are TRON: Legacy writers Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz, who will also be consulting producers. The story is said to follow Beck (Wood) and his journey in the Grid in which he leads a revolution. Hearing that, it looks like this series will be off the grid from the original Tron (No pun intended…). Gary Marsh, President of Entertainment and Chief Creative Officer for Disney Channel Worldwide was quoted as saying that the new show is “a culmination of an extraordinary collaboration between Disney Television Animation and our feature film studio.” So keep your eyes and ears open because this will be one series I suggest you see.
