The Latest Viral News for Films and Beyond!

Another You. Another Chance. “Another Earth”.

Caleb Hamilton, May 29, 2011

A few weeks back, we reported on a Fringe ARG that allowed you to take a look into the alternate universe and find out how the other you lives their life in a limited capacity. Now Fox Searchlight is giving you a chance to actually meet and interact with the other you in a pretty cool way for their upcoming film Another Earth!

When you head to the Another Earth website to meet the “other you”, the webcam (if you have one) on your computer will activate. You are shown a series of clips from the film, all the while, your webcam is recording your actions. Eventually, a video transmission from “Earth 2” is fed to your computer. You are asked to write a message for the other you and hold it up to your webcam. When the video feed stabilizes, the video your webcam recorded will play back as the “other you.”  The other you will do the same with a message of what you should do to make your life better (I was told to “Work less. Play more.”). Afterwards you can share your experience with friends via Facebook and Twitter and then reconnect with the “other you” if you so choose.

The synopsis of Another Earth is as follows:

IN ANOTHER EARTH, RHODA WILLIAMS (BRIT MARLING), A BRIGHT YOUNG WOMAN ACCEPTED INTO MIT’S ASTROPHYSICS PROGRAM, ASPIRES TO EXPLORE THE COSMOS. A BRILLIANT COMPOSER, JOHN BURROUGHS (WILLIAM MAPOTHER), HAS JUST REACHED THE PINNACLE OF HIS PROFESSION AND IS ABOUT TO HAVE A SECOND CHILD.

ON THE EVE OF THE DISCOVERY OF A DUPLICATE EARTH, TRAGEDY STRIKES AND THE LIVES OF THESE STRANGERS BECOME IRREVOCABLY INTERTWINED.

Here’s the trailer:

It looks like Another Earth focuses more on the emotional side of the discovery of a duplicate Earth and how it affects the lives of the people on our Earth, instead of the science behind it, the way Fringe does. As you can see in the trailer, Rhoda kills this man’s entire family and then seemingly can’t come to tell him who she really is. This is definitely a very emotional, dramatic film and it’s already won the Alfred P. Sloan Feature Film Award at the Sundance Film Festival. Another Earth opens in theaters in the US on July 20th.

Another Earth will receive a limited release on July 22nd.
