Practice For The Zombie Apocalypse in a British Shopping Mall Dan Koelsch, March 25, 2012April 27, 2012 Have you ever wanted to feel what it was like to experience a zombie apocalypse? Have you wanted to have said experience in a mall like in the classic Dawn of the Dead or its impressive remake? Now you can, thanks to Zed Events and an abandoned shopping mall in England. Get the details after the break. Mashable reports that the event group who put on Zombie Manor House are back to let you live your Dawn of the Dead dreams/nightmares. The abandoned shopping mall in Reading, Berkshire is scheduled to be demolished, but until then you can spend $183 to try your luck at the Zombie Shopping Mall. The four hour “immersion experience” lets you take on zombie hordes (i.e. actors in make-up) with BB guns that have limited ammunition. The company’s website explains the storyline and what to expect:The world has descended in to panic as the slow infestation of the un-dead march across the globe consuming everything living in its path. Not much is known about the source of infection but it quickly spread as borders crumbled and defences were over ran. Governments just failed to understand what they were up against. The world is in tatters, it’s time to start your survival plan! Survivors will NEED to work as a team to escape. You will also need weapons! We will arm you and give you very basic training on how to keep yourself alive. However, this will not just about shooting zombies, ammunition will be severely limited with only a few opportunities to get more. As a survivor you will need nerves of steel, speed and brain power if you are to fight your way through the zombie horde to safety.Zed ‘Full Immersion’ Zombie events at The Mall, Reading are like being in a movie. Each event is an adrenalin and blood soaked survival horror event like no other in the UK. From arrival, the day is split up into two parts. Firstly you will take part in a 2 – 2.5 hour long ‘movie like’ experience, where you will meet and be armed by a Police special firearms team. You will be part of an unfolding story that will play out in real time. Every decision you make will affect the world around you. The second will see you and your group pitted against the zombie hoard alone in a series of computer game like missions in a full-on ‘run and gun’ gore fest. You just simply book, turn up and take part. Everything you need is provided on the day, you just need to survive. We use movie quality Special Effects and props to achieve something that is unrivaled in live survival horror. Availability is very limited, so book early to avoid disappointment. We promise you will have an unforgettable journey! If you live in the area, will you buy a ticket? If they had something like this near you, would you want to go? If they offered this in the US – chances are I would drive across country to participate especially at a price like that. Something so extreme and submersible would draw extreme crowds anywhere IMO. Unfortunately the cost of changing continents hinders any chance of participation from me 🙁 .
I actually live quite close to their sister site; an abandoned mansion that smacks of Resident Evil. I was at their first event and I’ve got to say that its like the coolest thing I’ve ever done, I honestly came out the other end and felt like I’d conquered the world or something. If you get the chance seriously hit it up, it’s insane.
