Trailers Weekly: “The Canyons”, “Hitchcock”, “Django Unchained”, “Zero Dark Thirty”, and “Gangster Squad”

Michael Lee, October 13, 2012October 14, 2012

Trailers Weekly is a feature in which we bring you the most popular and talked about trailers of the week. Sharing trailers is a classic viral practice, and trailers are still the most mainstream way for people to learn about movies. This week provided us with so many trailers, so of course we will post our favorite ones this week, which include The Canyons, Hitchcock, Django Unchained, Zero Dark Thirty, and Gangster Squad. Hit the jump for more.

The Canyons
Grindhouse-style trailers is almost a forgotten form of trailer. But for every one that comes up, there is a sense of excitement. The first trailer for The Canyons is the latest film to use the style and format, and it’s a very fitting film. It’s dark, sexual, very cheesy, and it has color large pop out text. Bret Easton Ellis (American Psycho) and Paul Schrader (Taxi Driver) penned the script for The Canyons. The film stars Lindsey Lohan and porn star James Deen. No word on a release date.

Hitchcock
The master of suspense had his fair share of troubles on and off the set. Deemed as a director who should retire, Alfred Hitchcock looks to take on a project so shocking and horrifying even studios would be hesitant to take on. The film sheds light on production problems and some of the problems off the set. Anthony Hopkins plays the titular character, while Helen Mirren plays his love interest, Alma Reville. Scarlett Johansson will play Janet Leigh. The film will hit theaters on November 23rd.

Django Unchained
“Adult supervision is required.” Of course with any Quentin Tarantino you are going to need plenty of that. The second trailer for Django Unchained appeared online earlier this week, and it proves that Tarantino has not lost his touch. The film centers on freed slave Django (Jamie Foxx) who journeys across America with bounty hunter (Christoph Waltz), to save his wife (Kerry Washington) from the sadistic plantation owner (Leonardo DiCaprio). The Weinstein Company released Django Unchained into theaters on December 25th.

Zero Dark Thirty
Kathryn Bigelow’s follow up to her Academy Award winning film, The Hurt Locker, will focus on yet another aspect of the war. This time, however, it centers on the assassination of Osama Bin Laden. The original script had to be changed due to the unforeseen event that changed the world. The film stars Jason Clarke, Joel Edgerton, Mark Strong, Jennifer Ehle, Kyle Chandler, Edgar Ramirez, and Jessica Chastain. The film opens in December.

Gangster Squad.
Due to the tragic events in Aurora, CO, Warner Bros and director Ruben Fleischer was forced to change the L.A. crime noir film, Gangster Squad, and even though it has been pushed back a few months, it doesn’t look like it has lost its sparkle. The film stars Josh Brolin, Michael Peña, Ryan Gosling, Robert Patrick and Anthony Mackie, plus Sean Penn and Emma Stone. Gangster Squad opens in theaters on January, 11 2013.
