ViralCast: Changes to “Prometheus” and “The Amazing Spider-Man”

Dan Koelsch, November 19, 2012November 19, 2012

This summer, two big blockbuster movies were released that disappointed many movie fans. I’m talking about Prometheus and The Amazing Spider-Man. If you’re one of those people, then you may be interested to know that both of these films got some major changes from their respective studios that might explain their flaws. After the break, Caleb and I talk about these changes in our latest podcast. Listen in, but beware of major spoilers.

Ridley Scott’s Prometheus, from 20th Century Fox, was originally intended to be a direct prequel to Alien. Jon Spaihts wrote the screenplay, titled “Alien: Engineers”. Damon Lindelof was brought in to do a major rewrite, with one of his first drafts being titled “Alien: Paradise”. We eventually got Prometheus, which has much less direct ties to the Alien franchise.

The Amazing Spider-Man from Columbia Pictures also saw some changes, but this time after/during production. It seems that a major subplot about Peter Parker’s parents and his source of power was cut out.

In our podcast, we discuss both of these occurrences and why they might have happened. Is this an upcoming trend?
