Trailers Weekly: “Star Trek Into Darkness”, “The Croods”, “Sound City”, “The Girl” Michael Lee, December 8, 2012 Trailers Weekly is a feature in which we bring you the most popular and talked about trailers of the week. Sharing trailers is a classic viral practice, and trailers are still the most mainstream way for people to learn about movies. This week provided us with some very exciting trailers. This week we have trailers for Star Trek Into Darkness, The Croods, The Girl, and Sound City. Hit the jump to see them all. Star Trek Into Darkness The first trailer for Star Trek Into Darkness is much more of an announcement trailer or a teaser than your typical trailer. But that’s okay, we still get to see Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto face off against their greatest threat, an unknown villain played by Benedict Cumberbatch – that is such an awesome name by the way. Karl Urban, Zoe Saldana, and Simon Pegg also return. Star Trek Into Darkness opens in theaters on May 17th, 2013. The Croods Another trailer for The Croods has arrived online. But this new trailer isn’t like the first one, instead of focusing on the family, this trailer focuses on Ryan Reynolds’ character. Not so much on board with the fact that The Croods is about Cavemen, but I am excited about the visuals and the imagery. Emma Stone and Nicholas Cage also provide their voices for this film. The Croods opens in theaters on March 1st, 2013. Sound City Sundance is just a little over a month away, and soon we will be seeing a slew of trailers for docs, indies, and other unknown projects hitting the web. So last week we had a trailer for the semi-documentary The Summit, now we have a trailer for Sound City, a documentary directed by David Grohl of The Foo Fighters. The film centers around Sound City Studios, the same studio where some of the world’s greatest bands recorded. Sound City will make its feature debut at Sundance on January and in theaters in February. The Girl Straight from the Tribeca Film Festival, David Riker‘s The Girl stars Abbie Cornish as a trouble mother who lost her child to social services, but a wayward young immigrant comes into her life and the two find a connection. Seems a bit formulaic but it could work for a certain audience. The film hits limited theaters on December 14. What did you think of this week’s trailers? Which was your favorite? Do you agree with the Internet buzz? Of course, every week there are a lot more trailers, teasers, TV spots, and clips that we can’t cover, so go to TrailerAddict.com to see your favorites.
