“After Earth” Shows Us How Famous Landmarks Decay Over A Thousand Years Christopher Moore, May 5, 2013 Have you ever wanted to know what would happen to the world’s most well-known landmarks if humans weren’t there to take care of them? Well, the upcoming film After Earth shows us the decaying result of our absence. See after the break what Mother Nature does to places like the Golden Gate Bridge over a thousand long years.Set up like a Google satellite image application, the new After Earth Decay website allows a person to zoom in all the way to street level for several different famous locations throughout the world, from The White House to Big Ben. You can also change where you are in the Earth’s timeline from present day to a thousand years in the future in 250 year increments. Each increment shows the level of decay that happens as buildings crumble and nature takes over. For instance, after 250 years the White House would look like this:They don’t have a ton of places available on their map, but it’s still cool to see what would happen to locations like the Eiffel Tower and the Kremlin over a long period of time. Of course, the site seems to predict that every landmark would be totally diminished or hidden beneath trees and forest in a thousand years, which I don’t entirely believe. Check out the site for yourself and play around with all the different locations at your leisure. After Earth is directed by M. Night Shyamalan and stars Will Smith and his son Jaden Smith. It comes out in theaters on May 31st, 2013. Here’s a synopsis on the plot:A crash landing leaves teenager Kitai Raige(Jaden Smith) and his legendary father Cypher(Will Smith) stranded on earth, 1,000 years after cataclysmic events forced humanity’s escape. With Cypher critically injured, Kitai must embark on a perilous journey to signal for help facing uncharted terrain, evolved animal species that now rule the planet, and an unstoppable alien creature that escaped during the crash. Father and son must learn to work together and trust one another if they want any chance of returning home. You can check out their official site, like them on their Facebook page and follow them on Twitter for more updates on the film before it’s released.
