Trailers Weekly: “Percy Jackson 2”, “Machete Kills”, “Monsters University”, “This Is The End” & More Michael Lee, June 1, 2013 Trailers Weekly is a feature in which we bring you the most popular and talked about trailers of the week. Sharing trailers is a classic viral practice, and trailers are still the most mainstream way for people to learn about movies. This week we have trailers for Percy Jackson: Sea Of Monsters, Machete Kills, Monsters University, This Is The End, and Prisoners.Percy Jackson: Sea Of Monsters Believe it or not, Percy Jackson’s modest earnings at the box office gave way for a sequel to happen. Percy Jackson: Sea Of Monsters brings back Logan Lerman, Alexandra Daddario, and Brandon T. Jackson for a second time. In the sequel, the three must protect a group of half-bloods from an evil force, and the only way for them to do that is by obtaining the golden fleece. Machete Kills The first trailer for Robert Rodriguez’s Machete Kills is anything but subtle, in fact the trailer puts an emphasis on exaggeration. Which in Rodriguez’s case is a good thing. Danny Trejo returns to reprise his role as Machete, a vigilante recruited by the U.S. Government to help track down a dangerous arms dealer. The film also stars Michelle Rodriguez and Jessica Alba, along with new cast members like William Sadler, Amber Heard, Demián Bichir and Charlie Sheen. The film opens in theaters September 13. Monsters University The prequel to Monsters Inc. can best be described as a Revenge of the Nerds for kids. Which is actually a good thing. Mike and Sullivan are back for another go around at proving why they are the best scarers in town. Only thing is, the film takes them back to how they ended up as friends and scare partners in the first place. Billy Crystal and John Goodman return to voice the respective roles. Monsters University opens in theaters on June 21. This Is The End This should be the final trailer for what is expected to be the funniest film of the summer. Seth Rogen, Jay Baruchel, Jonah Hill, Danny McBride, and Craig Robinson all play as themselves as survivors of the apocalypse. One really has to wonder if the apocalypse did happen, would this group act the same way? I hope so. The film also Jason Segel, Michael Cera, David Krumholtz, Rihanna, Emma Watson, and many many more. The film opens on June 21. Prisoners Hugh Jackman stars in this film as a Boston man who kidnaps person he suspects is behind the disappearance of his young daughter and her best friend. A detective (Jake Gyllenhaal) is assigned to the case, but doesn’t even suspect that Jackman’s character is involved and ends up arresting the wrong man (Paul Dano). This has some intense moments and looks better than any substandard police drama. Directed by Denis Villeneuve and written by Aaron Guzikowski Prisoners opens in theaters on September 20th.What did you think of this week’s trailers? Which was your favorite?
