Comic-Con 2013: Interview with “2 Guns” Producer Ross Richie

Dan Koelsch, July 22, 2013July 22, 2013

CC2013

2 Guns is an upcoming action comedy film opening in theaters on August 2nd. The movie is based on the comic book of the same name from Boom! Studios. At Comic-Con this past week, I had the chance to sit down with Boom! Studios founder Ross Richie to talk about this movie, which he is producing. Listen to our interview after the break.

Ross Richie Bio: In 2005, CEO Ross Richie founded BOOM! Studios in the spare bedroom of his apartment. Since then, BOOM! has grown to be a preeminent comic book and graphic novel publisher focused on publishing licensed content from some of the biggest brands in the world (Charles Schulz’ PEANUTS, Jim Davis’ GARFIELD, Clive Barker’s HELLRAISER and NEXT TESTAMENT, along with 20th Century Fox’s PLANET OF THE APES, and Cartoon Network’s ADVENTURE TIME and REGULAR SHOW) as well as generating between 15 to 20 new original comic book series a year, making BOOM! the largest independently owned library of comic book intellectual property. The first BOOM! comic book adapted into a feature film arrives this August 2nd, 2013 — 2 Guns starring Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg, distributed by Universal Pictures. Prior to BOOM!, Richie set up projects as a producer with an array of legendary names in the business like Oscar-winner Akiva Goldsman (A Beautiful Mind, Hancock), Mike Medavoy (Shutter Island, Black Swan), Mark Canton (300), and Spyglass Entertainment (The Sixth Sense, Star Trek). Richie began his career working in marketing for Malibu Comics, the publisher of Men In Black, and was a part of the team that helped transition the company when it was acquired by Marvel Comics in 1994. Richie is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin.
