The Amazing Spider-Man 2‘s viral site, The Daily Bugle, has been making a few references to some of the major villains in Spider-Man’s rogue gallery. Shocker, the Enforcers, Hobgoblin, Venom, even She-Venom have all been mentioned or alluded to in the past few months via these faux articles. Some of these articles even bridge the gap between the first film and sequel.
Now Puma has been referenced in an all new article. Hit the jump to read the full faux article from The Daily Bugle’s tumblr site.
Here’s the article.
Smash the tail of a lizard, it grows back new. Smash a school with the tail of a lizard, it stays smashed. Until now, that is.
An endowment to the New York City public schools system from Fireheart Industires will help pay for the repairs to the damage suffered by Midtown Science High as a result of Dr. Curt Connors’ rampage three months ago.
Casino owner and businessman, Thomas Fireheart, presented the donation to the city school’s chancellor in an afternoon ceremony at the school. The gift of two million dollars will cover the entire estimated cost for repairs.
Attending the event, senior student and co-captain of the school’s football and basketball varsity teams, Eugene “Flash” Thompson said, “This place was a freaking mess after the Lizard smashed it up. But it would’ve been a lot worse if it wasn’t for Spider-Man.”
What’s interesting about this article, other than the fact that it references Thomas Fireheart aka Puma, is that it establishes a timeline. According to the article, three months have passed since Dr. Connors attacked the school.
Puma was originally an antagonist to Spider-Man. Endowed with animal-like powers through mystic enhancements thanks to his Native American heritage, when Fireheart used his Puma form, he had superhuman acute senses as well as superhuman strength, speed, stamina, agility, flexibility, reflexes/reactions, coordination, balance, endurance. He was even more deadly thanks to a combination using his razor sharp fangs and claws with his various knowledge of martial arts.
We still got a couple of months left before the film debuts, so a number of villains still have their time to shine in the viral marketing spotlight.
Directed by Marc Webb, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Jamie Foxx, Dane DeHaan, Paul Giamatti, and Sally Field. The film opens in theaters on May 2, 2014.
